Biography and Career
In many interviews Adriana Lima had been heard saying that she was never very serious at modelling although that she had won many pageants in her elementary school. However, it should be noted that she never had to look back since being voted second in the “Ford Supermodel of the World” at a tender age of 16. She shifted to New York three years later and got her name into Elite Model Management. Soon her portfolio’s started flying here and there and she got to feature in Marie Claire and Vogue.
This was a point when she was started being recognised and thus she got to walk the ramp for eminent designers like Vera Wang, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian Lacroix, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Fendi, Valentino and others. Her print career kick- started when she got an excellent opportunity to appear in a billboard by Vassarette at Times Square. Very recently in the year 2000, Adriana became a Guess girl after she was noticed in the bill board, for their year fall ad campaign and hence featured in it. Furthermore, this sexy lady also featured in the book “A Second Decade of Guess”.
For continuous seven years, i.e. from 2003 to 2009 she remained the spokes model for Maybelline and featured in all their ads. It is during this time that she got clicked for the company’s first calendar and that too a limited edition one where she shared space with eminent models such as Kemp Muhl, Julia Stegner, Anna Wang and Jessica White. While many models never get to work with big brands, Adriana Lima can proudly proclaim that she got to work with few of the best such as Bebe Mossimo, Bulgari, Armani, De Beers, Keds, Intimissimi, FCUK, Versace, Swatch and even BCBG. Apart from featuring in Vogue and Marie Carie, she also got to be on the front page for ELLE, Arena, Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire and Cosmopolitan. It is to be noted that the GQ issue of April 2006 which had her on the front page was the highest selling issue of the magazine for that year.
It was in the year 2005 that our lady got to appear in Pirelli Calendar and went on to become the face of the Italian telephone giant, Telecom Italia Mobile. This mega contract made her win many accolades and she earned a whooping six million dollars during the contract. She became a star after this and said in an interview that will not be able to walk on the streets of Italy. It is because of this that she was started being called as the “Catherine Zeta Jones of Italy”. In the February issue of Esquire she came on the front page of the magazine along with her fellow Victoria’s Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Izabel Goulart, Selita Ebanks and Karolina Kurkova marking the 75th year celebrations of the same.
Adriana Lima wanted to experiment more as her beliefs that there is only one life and there are many wishes to be completed and thus the Brazilian hottie even tried her acting skills in movies such as The Follow which released in the year 2001. Here she got a chance to work with Mickey Rourke and even Forest Whitaker. Later came for her a short film from the BMW series titled The Hire. It starred Clive Owen and was directed by Wong-Kar-Wai. However, the lovely lady didn’t stop there as she made a guest appearance as herself in the year 2007, along with her fellow Angels in the series “How I Met your Mother?” in the month of November. Adriana has always remained a great fan of the Ugly Betty series and thus finally got to make an appearance in the same which is said to have thrilled her.
